About Us

UoA Women in Law is a student-led charity committed to fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for women-identifying and gender-diverse law students at the University of Auckland. We champion intersectionality and advocate for gender equity within the legal community, both on campus and beyond.

Through a range of academic, social, and community-oriented initiatives, we provide meaningful opportunities for students to connect, be supported, and contribute to positive change in the advocacy space.

One of our cornerstone initiatives is our Mentoring Programme, designed to support first-year law students from backgrounds underrepresented within the law school. Mentees are paired with experienced student mentors who offer guidance, encouragement, and a welcoming community throughout the year.

We are proud to collaborate with equity-focused groups across the university. As part of the Auckland Law School Equity Council and the Mana Wāhine Council, we work alongside other student organisations to promote a more inclusive, intersectional, and equitable environment across the legal education journey.

We are led by a passionate team of 16 executive members who drive our vision, events, and advocacy work throughout the year.

OLD BLURB

UoA Women in Law is a charity that aims to foster an inclusive environment for women-identifying and gender diverse students studying law, while advocating for intersectionality and gender equality within the wider legal community. We offer a number of social, academic and community orientated events throughout the year which give our members the opportunity to form connections, receive support and make a positive contribution within the advocacy space.

For the past three years, we have run a highly successful mentoring programme which aims to support part one students from backgrounds which are underrepresented within the law school cohort. Mentees are paired with senior students who offer pastoral support throughout the year. The programme, is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow students in a relaxed and welcoming environment!

We’re proud to sit on the Auckland Law School Equity Council, which is a coalition of equity-focused groups at the law school. The Equity council is responsible for promoting and advocating for equity causes within the law school community.

We also sit on the Mana Wāhine Council, which is a coalition of women’s issues & gender equity focused groups across the University of Auckland, chaired by the AUSA Women’s Rights Officer.
